We're launching the Book Tour for HOME FOR CHRISTMAS by Catherine Lanigan! #HCTour

On Tour with Prism Book Tours

Note from the Author

Home for Christmas was pure Joy for me—in every chapter and word. I was thrilled when my editors gave me the green light to write this, the first Christmas story set in Indian Lake. I certainly hope it’s not the last for my beloved characters.

This story is especially dear to me because it’s cut right out of my life. In my hometown of La Porte, Indiana, there was a magical all-glass greenhouse just like the one Joy Boston inherits. From my earliest memories of Christmas, visits to the Bernacchi Greenhouse to choose the right poinsettias for aunts and friends was practically part of my DNA. For decades, even when I moved out of town and lived in big cities and foreign countries, Christmas memories always began in those greenhouses.

Today, the greenhouses are empty—glass ghosts of a time passed.

I had been devising several romantic Christmas stories and the idea of flamboyant poinsettias and those old greenhouses figured prominently in my midnight musings. But it was when my Aunt Sara came to visit she told me about my cousin, Monique’s century old home that she’d just equipped with Geothermal heating and saved money on drastic heating bills that the vision of engineer, Adam Masterson, sprung into my head and the plot flowed from there.

Just about everything in this story is true to my life, real life at Christmas in my town. There is a Christmas Pops Symphony concert I attend every year. We do have horse drawn carriages taking folks to and from. The tree farm is north of town and is where I bought my fabulous conifer tree last year. And it is where I’ll be right after thanksgiving to purchase my tree for this year.

There’s ice skating on several ponds and the smaller lakes around town, since we have seven lakes inside the city limits. The Santa Claus parade is an annual event. The Christmas Candlelight Tour which was featured in Katia’s Promise, is still going strong. Years ago, when my sister, Nancy, was alive and flourishing in her Celebrations-to-Go gift store, she decorated houses for the tour and several years she was tour chairman.

I took my nieces out on the golf course a few years ago to sled and we had hot cocoa and cookies afterward to warm up.

And, just when you thought I’d made up “Dead Man’s Tree”, sorry, that was real as well. The story behind the tree is fiction, but the grief of those who lost a loved one due to Dead Man’s curve and that tree is real. Till this day, there are those of us who still mourn lost classmates.

For all of you who cherish family traditions enough to expend the extra effort to re-create Christmas memories and keep the flame of faith and hope alive from one generation to the next, I send you my blessings. Christmas IS a magical time. Wishes come true. Dreams really can become reality and love can be found –even when it’s been lost.

Merry Christmas to all!

God bless us, every one!

Catherine
