Author Interview
What inspired you to write Under the Shade of the Banyan Tree?
Under the Shade of the Banyan Tree is a compilation of poems and short stories. The poems were written over several years. A friend recommended I publish them. Subsequently, I was advised that a book of poems is not necessarily palatable to a lot of people. Hence the idea of adding the short stories to reach more readers.
If you could sum the book up in one sentence, what would you say?
Under the Shade of the Banyan Tree is a collection of blissful moments; deep, invisible wounds; cries for help; declarations of defiance and philosophical observations which elucidate the different phases of the human condition.
What challenged you about writing this collection?
What I found most challenging is trying to put the collection together as it is so varied, and the pieces have been written over several years. Still, I think I’ve made a decent attempt.
Which piece in the collection do you most relate to and why?
That is a difficult question to answer as I relate to all the pieces in the collection. There is a piece that fits my every mood.
What do you hope readers will take with them after they’ve read it?
I hope readers will be able to relate to the book and find a part of themselves in this collection.
What is something about you that is unique or we may not know?
I did not start out as a writer nor did I ever intend to become one. I started writing as a stress buster and as a form of self-therapy. I never thought it will become a habit and a vital part of my life.
