Author Interview
What inspired you to write ACRES OF PROMISE?
This story is based on a true story about a friend of mine where I’ve watched her journey these last ten years. She’d made some unfortunate mistakes in the past, and it took her a while to find out why she kept repeating them. I’ve made some fictional changes to the ending. I often get comments on how realistic the story is which makes me smile. This month, someone from the UK reviewed my book and said, “I love how you issues dealt with within this story line are true to life. That they are real life issue that the readers can learn true perspectives from.”
What do you love the most about this story?
I love how Andrew comes alongside the teenager, Noah and mentors him. He shows him the father’s heart and believes the best in him, even when he stumbles.
What challenged you about writing it?
Knowing my friend who I’ve based the story on would read it. I hoped I would be true to her life experience, but also honest about how she’d put herself in a vulnerable situation. Some readers take a while to warm up to Chantelle because she does have flaws. But we see her pressing into God in desperation to help her and her son move forward.
Which character do you most relate to and why?
I’ve raised teenage boys so I can relate to the “phase” of change and how humans have a free will and they will do what they want sometime, even when it makes stupid sense. 🙂
What do you hope readers will take with them after they’ve read it?
I want Christians to be supportive of single mothers and parents who have troubled teenagers. I also want to encourage parents who are struggling, that God is the perfect parent and is working behind the scenes.
What do you enjoy doing when you're not writing?
I breed Ragdoll cats, so I love playing with kittens. Aside from this, I enjoy spending time with the family and going for walks. Plus I love to read, read, read.
